Avatar is bad news for movie lovers

While the world struggles to find new adjectives to describe the wonderfulosity of James Cameron's 3D epic, Avatar, the more sober amongst us reckon that film lovers should be afraid - very afraid - of what its runaway success means.

Are millions queuing round the block to see it several times because it's a great film or because it uses a desperately-clunky technology to produce a 3D illusion? Would it have knocked Titanic off the top spot of all time if there had been no 3D effects?

No it wouldn't. Take away the 3D hype and it's nothing but a tired remake of Pocahontas with a load of lumpen environmental mumbo jumbo bolted on top.

Would Citizen Kane be a better film in 3D, or color? No it bloody wouldn't. Kane is a great film as it is. Colorizing it or adding a Dolby Surround soundtrack would add nothing, 3D likewise.

Technology is no substitute for a great story and script, proper characterizations, skilled direction and cinematography.

It's hard enough for new talent to get their movies made as it is.

Now the Hollywood suits will be demanding that every movie comes in 3D, meaning what money is available will be spread across a handful of mega movies rather than hundreds of boring old 2D ones.

please read the rest of the article at the following link. (As a respect to original article and its copyrights, I don't want to put the whole article here.. but read it, argument is seriously valid)

Letting out a secret, I still didn't watch Avatar. I just can't make up my mind in walking to the cinema just to watch an animation flick. Lately I'm getting sick of all the visual effect filled films.. sometimes I feel waste money + time @ cinema. (yeah.. call me a socialist now!)

I still find God Father 1 a great movie despite it has been shot 1972 and rudimentary visual effects. I watched it only ones (abour 6 years ago). But still I can narrate the plot quite accurately. That's how big that movie has impacted on me.

For me there 2 kinds of movies...

Movies that have a soul in them & ones that havent

Its simple as that... Crap fests like transformers 2 are made with only money in mind... just add some story for the hell of it just because u need to fill the gap in between the Robot fights..thats it... the main aim from the very beginning is put as much money as u can in CGI & hang everything else in between...no sweat, no blood, no soul... just a money earner for this year until they start to make the 3rd one for the next year

but almost all movies I've seen in Cameraon has a soul... Take Terminator 1 for example... Camaeron went over budget & put his own money to complete the film HE WANTED IT TO BE..and the result ? Arnold & he was immortalized...

Take Terminator 2...broke new ground for CGI animation....

Titanic... Broke new ground on box office sales...

Avatar..biggest post production period for a film..again broke new ground for CGI animation for the 2nd time..

See a trend ?..this guy is a perfectionist... he puts his blood & sweat for his films..he not only wants money..he has pride in his work..and he wants people to remember his work... so almost all of his movies are special...

so for me Avatar has a soul..
